Blind Boys of Alabama, Sunday night
Bit of a strange one this. I went along with a mate, not quite sure what to expect (and even less sure what the Blind Boys have in terms of "Celtic Connections").
The royal Concert Hall was nearly full though. And this was one of those gigs that really benefited from the GRCH's superior acoustics. The BB are a 7-piece these days, but they're very proud of their 5 Grammys and - yes - four of them are actually blind.
We were treated to about an hour and a half of damn fine singing, including the one I know them for best, Tom Waits' Down in the Hole, made famous by its use as the sig for TV's greatest ever drama series, The Wire.
Overall, this was a nice night out. Cool vibes, some entertaining repartee from the BB, a happy crowd. A pretty good cold January Sunday night in Glasgow
Here's a couple of YT clips that capture some of the BB's act...

a blind man that big should not be moving around a raised platform unassisted.
I sometimes wonder at the lack of basic health and safety in this country, I really do.

Nice review and excellent clippage Mo.
I'm guessing you were in the upper left balcony going by the photie. It's a good spot if you're ever attending a pianner-based gig - they always seem to set up the stage with the keyboard facing that way and you get a great view of the player's hands.
You even managed to snag a reply from ole FD without ironic parentheses in it.
Top work all round.

Cheers Immo.
I think FD has potential, although his parentheses are deeply ironic I agree.
