As it's Sunday
Just like to share the culinary delights on offer at liquor towers today with my fellow galloping camp cooking pal Mr Green.
Pheasant Casserole
25g Butter (1oz)
1 Pheasant, prepared and jointed
225g button mushrooms (8oz)
225g baby onions (8oz)
2tbs plain flour
1 large glass red wine
1 large orange, zest and juice
1tbs redcurrant jelly
600ml stock (1 pint)
1 Bouquet garni
Salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Method:
Melt the butter in a large flame-proof casserole dish and brown the pheasant pieces. Remove from dish and add onions and mushrooms. Fry until onions are golden.
Remove onions and mushrooms from the pan and add the flour, stirring to incorporate the fat. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to the boil.
Return the pheasant, onions and mushrooms to the pot. Cover and place in the oven at 170 °C / 325 °F / Gas3 for 11/2 hours.
Served with roast veg, cabbage, peas and green beans if there are any in the freezer.
No sweet, as sweets are for homosexuals and non-cyclists.
Simple, but real comfort food for the depression and the shocking heartburn brought on by that evil drink stuff. Sobriety and cycling is the way forward from now on. And anyway, it's uncomfortable as fuck hiding under the stairs to get over the depression and self loathing.

Re: As it's Sunday
Got the day off today
Invited round to my sister's place where she's doing us a nice roast lamb dinner with all the trimmings.
I may rustle up some toast beforehand but that will be the sum total of my culinary activity for the day.
This will enable me to devote myself more fully to the vino tinto

Re: As it's Sunday
Do you think the 25 g (1oz) of butter is the ingredient that makes the whole thing, Snake? I think Immo's gone to Crown's for "dinner" and made up the shit about his sister.

Once a toast rustler, always a toast rustler. It's a genetic thing.
Probably buttered toast in these days of plenty.

Re: As it's Sunday
Wouldn't surprise me. Always suspicious about these guys who paste a recipe into a post and kid on it's their own.
Now Campsie Jim, there was a guy who knew how to cook. So long as you wanted black pudding and square sausage, that is.

Re: As it's Sunday
I always thought of it more as a sympathy thing for Toots. "Course it's lovely, Immo. And yes the traditional way is to burn everything and add spices to cover it up. You've followed Delia's menu to the letter!"

Re: As it's Sunday
Dunno what happened to Campsie. Perhaps his final heartbeat couldn't make it through the arterial sludge.
We may have to start a silent thread for him.
Well, not absolutely silent. Black pudding can make a man fart something awful.

After pheasant and that amount of veg the only thing "dewy" will be your farts.

Veg is wonderful indeed.

PS Is it a Gordon Ramsay recipe, Crown?

Re: As it's Sunday
I love the way that Plissken feels able to cast nasturtiums at my cooking ability on this forum.
It's rich stuff from a man who considers the sine qua non of culinary experimentation to be the mixing of HP sauce and tomato ketchup as a condiment
The fact that he'd need a map to get to the kitchen and a step-by-step recipe to make toast is niether H nor T.
Crown however ... is a delight
I'm feelin quite protective towards him this evening

The clue may be in Crow Licker's name.

Not even if they're wilted in the pan and served with basil and pine nuts or some fuckwit sauce?
