Look man - just cos you were too fukkin old to properly indulge yourself in the visceral joys of UK punk rock doesn't make it a bad thing.
At the age of fifteen I was much more interested in jumping up and down to the likes of The Buzzcocks, The Clash and even The Rezillos than I was in cultivating a hip sneer and listening to another interminable solo from Tom Verlaine.
(I got into that properly when I was about your age )
Richard Hell was good tho. (Just the fast ones mind)
And the Ramones were exempt from any criticism because they were fast as fuck and... well... because they were the fuckin Ramones maaan!
Much as I respect your musical knowledge and prowess, Immo (after all, you were only 10 points behind, man ), the above is utter pish. And you're getting your years mixed up too.
I actually saw the Rezillos support the Ramones at the Apollo, while McLaren was away re-hashing NY punk on the King's Rd and hoping nobody noticed the rip-off. I saw the Stranglers, Slits, X Ray Spex and many more. Some of it great, but 99% of it self-consciously ripped off from NY.
And as for Tom Verlaine, the overlong solos came much later. At the age of 15 I was playing bootlegs from the Ocean Club in NYC featuring Patti Smith, Television, Blondie, Richard Hell, Reed & Cale, David Byrne and many many more doing far more sophisticated "punk" than anything that came out of Engerland a couple of years later.
Nothing to do with hip sneers, but Richard Hell was doing his stuff when John Graham Mellor was busking covers in tube stations. I suppose McLaren's real achievement was selling re-styled punk back to the Yanks in the shape of the godawful Sex Pistols.

a. You lied about your age

c. You were a closet hippy

x. Sadly no my age is my age
y. In the case of the Sex Pistols et al it's important to separate the desperate rip-off from the genuine homage?
z. Think you'll find my Gong post was an attempt at humour
I enjoyed punk Brit style but some of the shite claimed on its behalf then (and now) is just plain wrong. Pkus I fukkin hated McLaren and don't think much of the Clash hero-worship. It's my right to do so as an old fart and Friday night quiz winner....
For the rest, may I refer the honourable gentleman to the NY Dolls (1973, note date):

Re: Great Lost Tracks - An Everyday Series
I'm on a strict curfew
Toots found out about my "Drink Myself To Death" plan
(She didn't much like the look of the "fag-ash" pallor I was sporting over the last few days and has forbidden any post-midnight roisterage until the 'death in service' section of my pension plan is at its optimum payout level. )
Fear not dear reader - I have a plan B (unlike Uncle Watty) Details to follow in further secret missives.
Au secours mon braves!
Women... cuh!

I actually left that particklerly ripe piece of cheese out for a multitude of posters
You, Sev and Crownybhoy were the three hot favourites tho
My first ever (unaccompanied by a relly) gig was a triple bill of Squeeze, The Radio Stars and Eddie and the Hot Rods at The Apollo
It's the Sunday before the October week
I can't think of a better way to spend it
Tickets in the bar?
