Re: John Martyn RIP
Thanks for the thread mo - you're a good man and no mistake.
A hard one to take. He was my man. Been listening to all his best stuff since I heard at lunchtime today - yep, lessons suspended and a class of poor Year 13's had to suffer my ramblings and reminiscences: they enjoyed the free period if nowt else. When the guy on Radio 5 briefly talked about his death it was like, "That's my man you're talking about"...pride and sadness.
Every track takes me back to very specific days and night and girls and successes and failures and sights and sounds and smells and tastes and the other one. The first track I played when I got home from my dad's funeral was 'Never Let Me Go' - the Big Man's music has just been there through everything over the last 20 odd years.
I spoke to him very briefly after the November gig and by fuck was he struggling, but he's had a life to savour and gigging to the very end is the way he always spoke of.
Solid Air Live at the Roundhouse DVD is going on and a wee drink will be had tonight.
Big John Martyn is dead.

Re: John Martyn RIP
Sad indeed.
All the good guys seem tobe dropping like flies.
I'd agree with Mo too - you should stick yer head round the door more often Vern.
