John Cooper Clarke, Edinburgh October 28
Approached this one in some trepidation. Johnny Clarke, the Salford punk poet whose wit had evaporated in a haze of booze and junk sometime in the 80s (90s?)? This could be embarrassing. As embarrassing as witnessing the blues guitar legend turned sad ole coffin dodger that was Johnny Winter at the Academy a couple of years back.
Yet nay, Johnny delivered 90 minutes of entertainment, a touch of nostalgia, and even some new rhymes including a hilarious spoof of Bono at the G8 ("Who Stole Bongo's Trousers"), and a few neat one-liners.
"Raoul Moat? I know it isn't fashionable to say so, but he was a cunt."
"Jesus? Jewish? So why the Spanish name?"
He did raise a smile by referring to being in Glasgow (clearly confusing God's own city with its chilly haughty auntie in the East), but Here's a bit of the Bongo repartee: https://youtu.be/abbdqdWLyDc
There followed an express-train delivery of the sublime Beasley Street, al from memory (which came as a shock to those of use who remember JCC in his heyday), folowed by a 21st century update - "Beasley Boulevard".
And finally, Evidently Chickentown, before the HMV Edinburgh crowd disappeared chortling into the Halloween night club crowds of Lothian Road. A good night, thanks Johnny

Re: John Cooper Clarke, Edinburgh October 28
I've had a few gigs over the last few months. If anyone wants a quick review let me know.
Yann Tiersen, Tony Conrad, Wilko Johnson, Icebreaker, BBC SSO (Psycho / Music to be Murdered By) - all Glasgow
Mogwai (Edinburgh)
Lou Reed (Hammersmith)
Tonight - some of the Philip Glass Minimal fest that's been going on in Glasgow this weekend.
I know you won't but it was just to demonstrate I'm still around during this annus horribilis (or "Peppy" for short )

Top bombing Mo.
Lovely clips an'all. Raised a hearty chuckle at Immo Towers, speshly from the Bongo-loathing Toots.
How was Wilko? (like I don't already know )

Re: John Cooper Clarke, Edinburgh October 28
Wilko was fab. A better experience than last year's show, probably because O2's tight-fisted management finally seem to have sorted the PA in ABC2.
Yann Tiersen's show at ABC1 in October was excellent, btw. Third time I've seen him in as many years, probably the most accessible of the three gigs.
Anyway, here's a little Wilko, recorded while standing on a chair near the back of the room:

PS what's the story with the Youtube button on this forum? Seems fucked.
While I'm in complaining mode, the admin is needing sorted on this site. A few odds and ends needing sorted out.
Where's that cunt Licker when we need him? Useless fukker.

Super, supermo! I wished I'd gone to see Wilko.
Dr Feelgood were in Falkirk at the end of September, and I missed out on that too (see them immo?): all reports were that they were fantastic, and that Robert Kane (singer) is a star. The rest of the band have been roughly the same since 1983.
