Shaggy to post on here you need to:

1. Go to YouTube (or wherever) and select your video

2. To the right of the screen it says Embed. Click on that so it turns blue. Click on Edit on your toolbar. Then click on Copy.

3. Come back to Stennymad and click on the little box, above where you are typing, that looks like a strip of film or even a ladder

4. Click on the box that appears, then go to edit and click on paste. Finally click ok.

5. Click Preview to make sure it's done what it's supposed to do.

Back to the shit...

This is the only tune I know of which mentions a Johnny 7 in the lyrics. So Snakey will be playing it continually from now on queen .

I got listening to some early Fleetwood Mac on You Tube last week and there's some fabulous stuff available.

You've got to give You Tube its due for the sheer diversity of quality media on there. Some of my friends who are old and knackered like me have been humming and harring over getting a computer. I only have to show them You Tube and they're instantly hooked. I WANT ONE OF THEM cheers

Last one ( thank feck thinks Immo Rolling Eyes ) The Albertos were a satirical band that surfaced during the late Seventies. Snuff Rock was (obviously) a piss take of punk. But it's a great song in its own right and I think it was a minor hit.

Sunday nights are always a bit odd musically.

Mibbes it's Ono's excellent previous track cheers

Mibbes it's the repeated prolonged exposure to Stuart Maconie's peerless Freak Zone show on 6 Music

I dunno what it is - but I always get a strong desire to hear tracks far removed from Ye Worlde of "Rocke".

(Regular readers will realise that this is a sorry excuse to post a lotta pish - as per. That and the fact that I'm back on the sauce Very Happy cheers )

This is lovely tho...

Nice Sakamoto track immo! Was a bit concerned he was going to launch into the Bonnie bonnie banks tho affraid

The Divine Comedy are a terribly underrated band, I don't think every song they've ever done is perfect but some are outstanding. I saw them once and Neil Hannon was unbelievably drunk and they were pretty poor- they were touring with Ben Folds who put on a marvelous show.

I think that may be the most concisely put sentiment on this thread. cheers Very Happy

I kinda drifted away from TDC after reccing "Generation Sex" to my musical mentor and him sayin'...

"Naaaah - he's the Richard Stilgoe of his generation Shocked "

I kinda knew what he meant. But I was more easily swayed back then. No

Howevvaah...

Those last two are v nice indeed.

The trouble with the non-rock thread is:

a: You get bored real quick

b: You start seriously considering posting Acker Bilk's "Stranger on the Shore" Shocked

c: Or Lord Rockingham's 11's "Hoots Mon"

Better to be inspired by the previous I reckon Smile

A wonderful choice, Immo. Mahalia Jackson is truly one of the all-time greats. She has a cracking slow version of YNWA in her repertoire too so obviously a good timette.

She was championed greatly during the post-war McCarthyite years and later by the great Studs Terkel, a man I once spent two memorable days with in Chicago 20 years ago while interviewing for a newspaper. Studs died just a few weeks ago, aged 96.

Here's to Studs and Mahalia, God bless 'em.

I withdraw the uber-cunt remark unreservedly Shocked

You met the great man???? Shocked Shocked Shocked

You lucky, lucky bastard cheers cheers

I only ever met him off the page.

But it was love at first sight definitely.

My first taste was "Working"

(purloined from Govanhill Public Library in 1987 as it goes - not that I'm particularly proud of that No )

Then "Race" and "The Good War".

It wasn't just that his interest in the stories of others was so patently genuine, it was the fact that he was just so good at paring away all the bullshit in a sentence and hitting the nub and gist of the perfect question square on the beezer - thus encouraging the subject to fill the space he created with the contents of their life at that point.

Plus... he loved his music. Toots got me "And They All Played" last year for Christmas - fabulous stuff.

I heard he'd gone recently - but I never thought of posting anything on here (I was prolly stocious Rolling Eyes Smile )

Thank fukk I din't now - I'da bin "owned" by you with your "I met him" top trump. Very Happy

Seriously man - De salud! Cheers

PS

I vaguely remember hearing a story about Studs and Mahalia somewheres. MJ was very serious about her faith as i'm sure you know, (she refused for most (all?) of her life to sing secular material) and it bothered her that Studs, a very dear friend, was an avowed atheist. Studs, knowing her desire to make him see the light used to encourage her to sing for him in order that he might "feel the power" and be saved from his godless ways. After each song he would say...

"You know... I think I really felt something that time. Maybe if you were to sing another song..." Very Happy
