Latest on Liverpool Echo Reverb Ballad of Lennon & McCartney...
Downbeat Stevie & I sent it to Alan Cox (son of Brian) about 2 years ago... and he snapped into action immediately. He read it... about 5 weeks ago.
He then got back in touch with our director saying, “Fuck me, it’s good. Do you want me to send it to (Chris) Eccleston?”.
Our director said yes very quickly and a couple of days afterwards, sent us a copy of CE's reply to AC...
He (EC) said he was a bit doubtful about it when he saw it was Lennon again, but;
" ...Then I read it. It is very very good, exceptional even, I admire the writing hugely, hugely."
and then
"Beautiful play. If there was a move to get together and the read the play-for the writers etc,for the hell of it,I would do it. Whatever happens please pass on my huge admiration to the writers."
So...
Next Monday, me and D.S. are heading down to Jermyn Street theatre in London to watch C.E., A.C. and a couple of others read through the play in front of an audience containing representatives from Royal Court Theatre (Liverpool & London),Liverpool Playhouse, Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre of Scotland a couple of regional theatres, Bafta-nominated Sarah Brocklehurst Productions and a couple of big-hitter multi-theatre-controlling production companies….
Toots has already warned me off snapping away with the phone-cam like some gormless tourist/hayseed and vetoed the idea that I could wear a George at Asda shirt for the occasion
I'm still a bit too for it to have sunk in yet.
I've had worse weeks.

Re: Theeee-ah-taaah News
Oh - and on the non-believing thing....
I heard a great story about Bill Murray recently.
A mate's niece was eating in a deli/diner in NY and got v excited after spotting BM at the far end of the restaurant.
He's putting his coat on - getting ready to leave, she's gettin all 'Look! It's BM!' .
BM spots this, and as he walks past their table he leans over, grabs a handful of their chips/fries, stuffs them in his mouth and sez "Nobody'll believe you..."

Re: Theeee-ah-taaah News
Cheers Gee
Went pretty well yesterday.
About 14/15 of the invited guests showed up and were all quite kind/complementary.
The 'read-through' was unrehearsed so I was a bit disappointed that the snap and pace we imagined for the dialogue didn't really come across, but Chris E's Lennon and Alan C's Macca were spot-on.
Lee Ingleby read the 'third banana' role of Cooper and was absolutely brilliant - a bit different to how Stevo and I imagined him being played, but we'll definitely be thinking about his performance during the rewrites.
Went to The Three Crowns after and got chatting to Alan C who was v complimentary and had a lot of good advice. He made an allusion to Galton/Simpson & Clement/La Frenais when talking about the script so I'm definitely havin that! Only spoke to CE for about that last 15 mins in the pub and we discussed.... fitba! He's a mad Man-Yoo-ite but he did name-check McIllvaney's Busby, Shankly & Stein as one of the best documentaries he's ever seen.
Felt a bit flat/down afterwards but it was prolly just post-event comedown and the thought of the 6-hour train journey from Kings Cross to Fawkirk.
(Or mibbes just Fawkirk )
Oh yeah - and I saw John Major and his minder walking into the Jermyn St branch of Waterstones
Couldn't get close enough to give the fucker the back of my hand tho.

Re: Theeee-ah-taaah News
This just in...
The woman from Royal Court London wants to meet up with meself and downbeat Stevie.
'Ballad' isn't their kinda thing (not political/contemporary enough) but she liked what she heard at the read-through.
DS has suggested that we think about summat (from the various half-dones and fragments we currently have kickin about) that might float their boat before we accept.
Spent the best part of today's bus journey to the Alloa campus (and back) considering same.
Nowt yet.
In other news...
DS has facilitated/written a (sought-after) role for (oor mate) Chris E.
He now owes us.
He sent a 'ta very much' e-mither to DS toneet.
Last few bits of it talked about 'Ballad'
