Suzanne Vega, Glasgow City Halls last week
Fantastic acoustics in the City Halls, I haven't been there for literally decades but a really pleasant surprise.
Suzanne Vega has always been a big hit with Mrs Supermo. On this tour she has kept it simple, just her on acoustic and two guys on bass and guitar. Ran through all the hits, some amusing small talk in between, she runs a nice line in self-deprecating female humour. Her voice is strong and it's only when you sit through the gig you realise she has such a deep repertoire.
Unusually for Glasgow it was a very quiet but appreciative audience, although one middle aged guy finally couldn't contain himself during the Tom's Diner (remix version) encore and suddenly got up and gyrated (couldn't really call it dancing) in a one-man moshpit. Mind you, it could have been his piles
All in all, a very enjoyable evening's entertainment: Here's a crap picture, couldn't be arsed try to get any more:
Tomorrow night, Elvis Costello at the Royal Concert Hall, expecting big things from that.
Oh, and (this is just to remind Immo what a varied cultural life we have in the big city), Whatever Works last night at the GFT was......on balance worth seeing. It's part bedroom farce and part stage-play-but-on-film. Larry David is very good, the storyline is daft, but there's some smart one-liners.
I should also have reviewed Videocracy, a doc about Berlusconi's grip on the Italian media (and the Italian psyche), seen last weekend. Excellent, recommended
I hope this has injected a little culture into your barren sad lives. Apart from Elvis, I may have some decent stuff next week too......

Re: Suzanne Vega, Glasgow City Halls last week
Like the look of that Berlusconi thing a lot
WW looked like (good) early Woody Allen from what I saw.
(Not as good as Love & Death (what is? ) but not as bad as A Midsummer's Night's Sex Comedy either )
Either way - ta for the recs.
Incidentally.... re your worries about the culturally-confining aspects of a life spent largely within Faw-kurt district....

Sincere apologies mate, I'd almost forgotten about Falkirk's contribution to modern culture.
