cheers, it was born out of frustration, i got everything back, vis-a-vis sockets advice, but the very next time i tried to log in, no chance, so i think im stuck with this. 
as for the phone, no chance, she put it down in ikea to pick something up, just walked away and left it,, i bought her a new one from orange, only £9:50, it does the job.
