Sev, I always liked stuff like the Fairports  and Incredible String Band, and especially the JSD Band, great Scottish act. I looked up Nic Jones and see he was influenced by Steeleye Span's Martin Carthy, which would be a good inspiration.

Here's one of my favourite JSD Band numbers:-
