.......... Huns on Saturday!

Long time (and a long distance to go) since I've seen a team in red v a team in blue, a typical old fashioned match I might add. And I really enjoyed it. Will try, in crown style, to mind and post some pictures later on.

They certainly know how to make a football match enjoyable. I was at Fortuna Dusseldorf 95 v SV Paderdorn 07, having been visiting Dusseldorf for a few days. My wife commented on the lack of old buildings in certain areas: I had to explain that the British had something to do with that!
20000 crowd, 15 euros to get in, beer whenever you wanted, great atmosphere and better quality football than on offer here. This was a second division match.


Huge areas under the stands for beer and bratwurst: 40 minutes before kick off.



Seats are multi coloured to make it look like a bigger crowd on telly.



Big display as teams were coming out. The Germans were as noisy as fuck, singing all game, often almost the entire crowd. I liked it when the teams were announced, and goalscorers, as the crowd adds the surname on after the announcer gives the first name.

Herr's the away support, also very noisy until they went three down after 35 minutes.

And I think Barry had been in town..............

(I once nearly got physically attacked at Brockville for saying that I thought the new Partick Thistle strip (circa 78/79) looked really smart.

51500 roughly, with a retractable roof and heating system to retain customer comfort in winter time. Bayer Leverkusen also played there last season. Rhein Fire played that peculiar American football there too, until they disbanded a couple of years ago. A lot of concerts are held there. The beer was quite dear.

Who owns the stadium, G? With those kind of attendance figures and looking at its spec I'm guessing it isn't Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Supermo, the stadium (I think) is a private/public joint venture, and is beside a large exhibition/fair complex, all close to the airport.
Fortuna rent it as tenants, but there didn't seem many other events scheduled on posters I saw....Coldplay and Depeche Mode, and that was about it, stretching into 2010.
