Alex Harvey nostalgia corner
Touch of nostalgia at the Winter Palace this weekend....
Here's SAHB bassist Chris Glen - watched over by a big fuckyou portrait of Vambo hisself - welcoming people to the unveiling of a bronze bust of the late great AH which was commissioned by a well meaning fan...
Everyone was too polite to say if the guy had taken a bigger whip-round he might have tried for a slightly bigger cast... or even one that resembled the great man...
But it was left to Alex Harvey Jnr to say a few words. He did say he remembered that his old man kept a collection of shrunken heads that he'd picked up somewhere on the road, but I think he was being polite
Anyway why shouldn't the city of Glasgow commission a life-size statue of Alex and unveil it in the centre of town. FFS if we can have one for Donald Dewar ...???

Re: Alex Harvey nostalgia corner
Anyway this prompted me to look out a BBC Scotland X:S prog about Glasgow's greatest-ever band, which went out more than a decade ago and still has that slightly incomplete feel (to this viewer anyway).
But first, but first, but first, found this almost-forgotten clip of Alex and Whisperin' bob from the early days of the SAHBs.......

Re: Alex Harvey nostalgia corner
Thank you, supermo, for a lovely Valentine's gift. Never seen these clips, now downloaded so I can see them on the telly.
Saw SAHB a few times in the seventies, they even played Falkirk Town Hall in 1973. Opening number was the Faith Healer, which went on for ages. There weren't a lot of people at the gig, and everyone was down the front by the stage. Think I saw immo wearing short trousers at the front door.
Alex' band had just finished touring with Status Quo, and I'm sure 'Next' hadn't been released by that point, it came out around Christmas, but they played most of the songs due to be released on the album.
Went to see them in Glasgow too, a few times.
(ps Crown, the interview with James Mcdonald is getting ever closer He's been doing music rather than painting recently)

Re: Alex Harvey nostalgia corner
You're welcome G. I was first recommended the SAHBs after Next came out. I was 13 and working a Saturday job and an older guy was raving about them. Within weeks I had all three albums (Impossible Dream had come out meantime).
Saw them at the Apollo in 74 and all of the Christmas gigs in 75. Then with Little Feat and the Who at Parkhead a year later.
Happy days.

Absolutely no idea Bewls. In fact I don't think AH was into football. I do know the great Zal Cleminson supported the former Rangers club, and the rest of the band were tims.
