Jamie T in Notts
“Oh Nottingham, oh Nottingham. Is full of fun, is full of fun. It’s full of tits, fanny and Forest, oh Nottingham is full of fun” This football chant was sung by the audience while waiting for Jamie T. Not heard it for ages.
Thought I’d be a bit of a tourist before hitting Wetherpoons, Carlsberg was £1.50 a pint, bargain.
Nottingham Castle - Looks bit modern for a castle doesn’t it?
The guy in the kiosk said you have to pay to go round the grounds unless you’re a Nottingham resident, but told him I was a Forest fan and he let me in for free. The castle has an art gallery too, here’s the entrance:
And here’s Nottingham’s iconic Robin Hood statue, situated at the bottom of the castle hill:
Castle photographed, it was time to book into the hotel, what a monstrosity:
Wander into town for more pics. The Travelodge is actually well situated for town.
This is the town hall, the Forest players use the balcony to parade their many trophy victories. This hasn’t happened for a long time. They paraded their two European Cup victories there, have I mentioned their back to back European Cup victories before?
This is with my back to the town hall and is known locally as “slab square”. It’s a popular place to meet: “I’ll meet you in slab square at 3 kidder”
Pic of the Theatre Royal, where immo’s play will no doubt be showing soon:
Notts has some lovely architecture, but mostly I find it uninspiring and ugly. No wide boulevards full of beautiful architecture. Like this art deco affair though:
Venue for the Jamie T gig, Rock City. Looks industrial doesn’t it?
Photos all taken, it was time for a drink and a love note to mo. I’m his favourite you know?
And so to the gig. It was alright.
He played mostly old tunes and performed his best tune (IMO Ike and Tina) second, should have saved it for later in the gig. It wasn’t loud enough either.
Perhaps I’ve been spoilt by the gigs I’ve attended, hell even Octopus (who they?) put on a better show.
Jamie’s not very charismatic and didn’t realise how short he was. The bass player was cool as fuck mind, well his hat was.
Missed the support band in favour of drinking cheap beer, good job, a pint of Tuborg was £3.20, which isn’t too bad really for a music
venue. Was very quick service at the bar too, well impressed.
Was supposed to be well into the vodka now, but drunkenly agreed to do a bit of culture tomorrow so am suffering cold turkey and dying
for a drink. Hate you all.

Went to Newcastle yesterday, and compared with that, it is fucking bleak mate. As was pointed out to me though, the dark, miserable day didn't give it a sunny glow.
Took in The Baltic yesterday:
On leaving, were asked if we'd mind completing a survey on it. We said that the exhibits were too sparse, there was a lack of information about the displays and the under utilising of such a beautiful space (one floor was completely shut) was a crime. Lady undertaking the survey (fancied me, can't blame her ) said that's what everybody says. Well do something about it you mongs. Was better when I visited a few years ago, they were showing the construction of Gormley's army or whatever it was. The restaurant is quite nice, but didn't eat there yesterday.
As always, my hero was on my mind :
Had lunch in this very nice pub, food was shocking mind:
Sorry guys, not a very good review, just go for yourselves, it's a beautiful city.

Re: Jamie T in Notts
Very nice review Crowny
You're a shoo-in to take Mo's Best Reviewer of the year award off him this year
Toots and I spent a weekend in Newark a few years back.
It was as exciting as it sounds.

Re: Jamie T in Notts
There is no comfort in visiting Newark mate.
If you visit that sort of area again, try Leicester, fantastically diverse city and constantly regenerating.
The jewel of the midlands is Birmingham though, it's a proper man's city.

Never been to Brummigen - always fancied it tho
Already got an invite to Skye (wk 1) and Hebden Bridge (wk2) for the Easter break so it'd need to be summer.
Us teachers get a lot of holidays you know

Re: Jamie T in Notts
Oooh Hebden Bridge, not far from Huddersfield. The girl that broke my heart was from Huddersfield. She had long dark hair and a Yorkshire accent (obviously), double grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, that always does it for me
Ask a Yorkshire girl to say "table", she should say taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaable, if they don't say it that way, they're not "proper" Yorkshire like. Fuck, I'll record my friend saying it next time I see her, can't write it phonetically.
Ask your host if they know "fat Sue" from Dewesbury, everyone knows fat Sue, if you know what I mean.

Re: Jamie T in Notts
Another interesting review, Crown. I took a similar view on the Baltic, you'll be pleased to know.
However I know my Top Reviewer position is safe. Your stamina will let you down as soon as you land in Santander or somewhere with too much vino and your poor man's magic marker.

Not my choice Mo, I had mine above a local pub. Managed to get the quarter gill optics sent upstairs before being crushed by the 25 stone stripper
