Anybody got a number for David Murray?

Post by supermo on Sat May 07, 2011 9:19 am

I just scraped 1.24 out of my SCIAF Lent box. Want to make a counter-offer.

For every 5 Celtic spend, they could've bought 5 Rangers.

Or bought 4 Rangers, 3 Dundees and a Partick Thistle.

Makes me proud our board determinedly lives within its means, reduces its debt, and ensures second place in the SPL consistently.

It's a strategy that has served us well.

Estimate how much we need to spend to just pip Rangers to the post. Then spend a million less.

I blame John Reid. For just about everything. He's a cunt.

It's rare to find someone that the whole of Glasgow can agree about.

Let's not limit loathing for "Dr" Reid to the fair city of Glasgow, Paul.

He's a cunt in anybody's language.

Brian Quinn was a bit like a cuddly grandfather.

John Reid is like the angry drunk in the corner of the bar. Neutral

well he is a cunt but I have to say that this season Celtic were beaten by their own corporate myth - of which John Reid is but the custodian - as huns say.

Corporate Myth No 1 - Win lose or draw we play the Celtic way. (cf Strachan's boring wins)

niall let's not argue - why do you think Celtic lost the league to a club worth 1?

yeah - that's probably true. But I think Celtic beat themselves. Reid's tactic of making the fans' paranoia a corporate paranoia (no matter what the evidence i.e. whether that 'paranoia' is justified or not) was not a good decision in football terms.

I believe that.

you insult the celtic fans by infering they cant think for themselves, like every other team, we won games we had no right to, and lost games we should have won. nothing more

Again - not looking for an argument FD - I have no more time for Reid as an individual than you do... but your argument seems a little cock-eyed. scratch

Surely if evidence of pro-Rangers/anti-Celtic bias exists then the least the guardians of the club can do is to expose it? As a Celtic supporter, I'm delighted to see the club finally come out and publicly comment on a corrupt governing body. If Regan does his job in the summer, then hopefully all of those secret committees full of 'like-minded' individuals will be a thing of the past and we will see (at l(e)ast) a transparent, fair and equally applied system of sanctions/punishments. On a purely semantic level - if evidence exists... is paranoia the right word to use anyways? Ponder2

In any case, isn't it possible that highlighting this 'paranoia' might just as easily have a galvanising effect on the team over the long run in much the same way that a Daily Ranger 'exclusive' pinned to the dressing room wall might?

As regards the other part of your post.... I agree that we've fallen short in a few games this season. We've got a fairly young side who haven't won their spurs yet and seem to freeze when faced with a big pressure game. However I am extremely proud of the strides we have made this season under Lenny. We are playing much better football and in Kayal and Izzy, we seem to have unearthed a couple of diamonds. The club is on a healthy financial footing and the crowds are coming back. Compare and contrast with the train-wreck that is the Huns, (fakeover saga, more UEFA sanctions regarding racism, a recalcitrantly knuckle-dragging support, looming tax-bomb...) remove the laptop-loyal spin, (Where did that Telegraph article about CW's real background get to? Not pulled by his PR wallahs surely? ) and I reckon we can be fairly optimistic about next season.

As I say - not looking for an argument - just my pov.

Thumbs Up

immo - despite any dodgy shenanigans and the undoubtedly unprofessional and pettyminded administration of football in Scotland, Celtic squads with less talent than this one have won the league against Rangers teams with more talent than the present one. - The centenary squad and the squad that stopped 10 in a row, for example

I'm aware of that FD.

Enjoyed em an'all cheers Cheers

No scam works perfectly all of the time. Even one that's ruthlessly protected by the media. (Traynor's turn-around from sefl-styled 'scourge of the blazers' to 'defender of the traditions' was particularly impressive)

The season pans out over a long time which allows for several imponderables to enter the equation. Celtic might've got lucky. Histories are a notoriously unreliable indicator - being written by the 'victors' as they are - mibbes the 9-in-a-row team was much better than anyone in a slavishly Gers-centric media realised. Mibbes the refs chucked it once we got so far ahead in the league that it was academic. Laughing

What we are seeing here and now is the protection of a member club with financial problems imo.

It's become more visible over the last coupla seasons precisely because of that - also imo.

The problem I have with the argument is that although it accepts the 'not fit for purpose' description of the SFA, it proposes that Celtic, as a member club, should simply shrug their shoulders and say "Wit ye gony dae about it eh?"

Anyhooo...

2nd half beckons. pale Thumbs Up

I have every sympathy bot Neil Lennon and the unspeakable and relentless tide of shite he's had to put up with. Witnessed yet again at Swinecastle tonight.

The fact is though "Dr" Reid plays the deflection game by attempting to appeal to common denominators. The fact is since he became chairman we haven't won the league, despite all our "moral" victories. The cunt even sought to blame "the fans" rather than his own board for the Mowbray Nightmare.

Yayyyyyy!!!!! cheers

The grumpiest man in showbiz is among us once more. Smile

As I said Mo... don't care for the man. Evil or Very Mad

Politically. Twisted Evil

Intrigued at your use of the word 'deflection' tho. Ponder2

Deflecting from what? scratch

The fact that our team hasn't been good enough to overcome a desperate last-ditch effort from all quarters of the game in Scotland to save the Huns from financial armageddon over the last coupla seasons?

Mowbray was an horrendous mistake granted - but I genuinely doubt that Pep Guardiola woulda fared much better given the circs.

TBH, I wouldn't fancy the gig meself. pale Very Happy

Deflecting from any proper attention being paid to the board, its cronyism, the utter failure to strengthen during Strachan's final year, the appointment of Mowbray (a proven loser), to name a few matters. I agree with a lot of what you say Immo, but I also attend Celtic AGMs every year and Reid's behaviour sickens me. Two years ago he resorted to making several snide remarks about hun finances, and even about that daft burd from the Trust.

Rangers' likely league victory this weekend will be tainted by the bullying, threats, letter bombs, the demonisation of the Celtic manager and some bizarre refereeing, for sure.

But we're likely to lose the league because of naive selection and a shocking performance at Inverness.
