This is where they cast “The Angel Of the North”.

I fucking love “The Angel Of the North”, when you approach it from Durham it hits you, and is so inspiring and beautiful.
My escort told me there is a sculpture in St Helens that affects you in the same way, anyone seen it?

http://www.dreamsthelens.com/

The Spanish artist commissioned for the piece originally proposed a miner’s helmet (St Helens is a mining town) but they knocked him back and said they wanted something forward looking.

H Downs used to have some maquette men in their yard, but the Gormley estate complained so they were removed. Sad

Harold Wilson was born in Huddersfield, who knew? Here’s his statue in St George’s Square:

Is it vegetarian? Smallharoldwilsonstatue

When St George’s Square was renovated, they wished to move his statue from the square centre to in front of ”The Head Of Steam” pub, his widow pulled some strings though and the re-positioning must wait until she dies.

Osadia were my favourite performers. They were basically hair dresser robed in costume outfits. They beckoned people from the crowd to have fantastic creations with their hair. They never spoke and had a deadpan expression at all times, it was a mesmerising experience. The coolest thing was back at the artists dressing rooms though, we were just leaving when they walked in and they raised their ball gown masks to cover their faces and maintain an air of mystery, so fucking cool.
Their fee was £5000, plus flights from Spain and accommodation etc.

My escort took me for a tour of Huddersfield town hall, and this was the concert area:

Is it vegetarian? Smallhuddersfieldtownha

She thought it was lovely, I thought it was gaudy and ugly. This could have been rectified if my favourite, immo, was tinkling those ivories on stage. Very Happy

I loved “Byram Arcade”. It was beautiful space. They had some bands and dances here throughout the festival.

Is it vegetarian? Smallbyramarcade2hudder

The council had planned to have exhibitions in some of the unused shops, but just recently they’ve all been taken and is now transformed from the wasteland it once was.

http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/local-west-yorkshire-news/2010/11/24/revival-on-way-for-historic-byram-arcade-86081-27702502/

There used to be a poets society or something on one of the floors, but my escort “chased them away”. Well, she stopped their funding. Very Happy

The “Corian Bench” was on display in Byram Arcade:

Is it vegetarian? Smallcorianbenchamandal

The room wasn’t big enough to allow me to retreat far enough to fit the whole exhibit in the picture, so here’s your cycling obsessed reporter sitting on it:

Is it vegetarian? Smallcorianbenchamandal

I complained that there was no information on the piece, but was told the gallery owner didn’t agree with such things, and wished the viewer to form their own interpretation.
Various institutes in Huddersfield are fighting over who will receive the bench after the festival, the university seems it be ahead in the race.

The bench was designed by Amanda Levete:

http://www.amandalevetearchitects.com/

Apparently she designed the media pod at lords cricket ground and the moon that was at Galsto this year.

Here’s me with a “Festival of Light” tabard on pretending to be helpful. This backfired, as I was roped into delivering sandwiches and soup to staff and security later on. affraid

Is it vegetarian? Smallfestivaloflighttab

I was also first reserve as a spot follower for “Theater Tol’s” performance. So if you get your play commissioned immo, I’m your spotlight operating man. Very Happy

I look fat in this picture, but can assure you it’s only the coat, buff as fuck, me. Very Happy

The “George Hotel”. The rugby league charter was formed here, there’s even a museum to the game downstairs:

Is it vegetarian? Smallgeorgehotelrugbyle

“Theatre Tol’s” performance was fucking fantastic. It was an operatic wedding, with the bridesmaids suspended on a fuck off great crane:

Is it vegetarian? Smalltheatretol2hudders

http://www.theatertol.com/

Fantastic as it was, I wanted a drink, so headed off to the aforementioned “Head Of Steam” pub. This was the opposite side of the square from where we were standing and I lost my escort in the crowd. She caught up with me at the bar and said:
“Blimey. When you want a drink, you want a drink. You just left me, I could have been raped and you wouldn’t have cared until you got your drink.”
I thought worrying about being raped was a bit ambitious. Very Happy

Was talking to one of the organisers as the bridesmaid went off to change, and said, wait a minute, that bridesmaid is a bloke, she said don’t be silly, but i persisted and she said, he does walk like a bloke. I was correct, at least four of them were male (with false breasts) I was gutted, because one of them waved at me as they went overhead during the performance. She was defo female though, but I’m happy with any form of attention. Very Happy

My escort had to meet the mayor and give him a speech backstage. He was more worried about how he could get his name into the speech. All politicians are egotistical wankers. The conversation was laughable. Here’s a backstage pic Very Happy :

“The Media Centre” had a cool light show:

Is it vegetarian? Smallthemediacentre2hud

There was a screen that you could text messages as one of the exhibitions. I made my escort text a paean to my hero, mo (I’m paranoid about anyone having my number), but unfortunately the software had crashed, so it didn’t display. It’s fixed now though, so the people of Huddersfield will wonder if mo is going to adopt me. Very Happy

Can’t be bothered to relate the tale of why this post is called “is it vegetarian”.

More stuff about the mayor. Sorry if this is boring, but it is pathetic how cynical these cuts are:

He was worried about being booed by the crowd when he went on stage. "What can I say to get the crowd to cheer and be on my side?"

The cunt took 6 children on stage with him so he wasn't booed, "they won't boo children".

And I won't say anything about his escort, who wasn't his wife. cheers

Ended up here:

http://www.sleepersbar.co.uk/

It's apparently where the arty crowd hang out and was very nice with an eclectic mix, but I'm sorry, a large glass of red wine and a double vodka and ice shouldn't be £9.60 for fuck's sake. Huddersfield is classed as a deprived community, I'm not fucking surprised at those prices.

There was a Wetherspoons:

http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-cherry-tree

my escort refused to countenance it though. It did look fucking depressing to be honest. Twisted Evil

Probably only back for tonight. The impending doom of regular hours and no cycling has made life an even more joyless experience, and I didn't think that was possible. The cycling endorphins are the only thing that keep the hose pipe out of the exhaust, that and the fact my car's a diesel. Very Happy

Oh yes, death by alcohol would be fantastic. My only ambition in life is to end up a hopeless alchy.Very Happy
The beer depression is a limiting factor though. Dope used to keep me on an even keel, but last time I smoked it my heart went tachy and the ICD shocked me four times, not fun.
Someone offered me some decent blow this week if I bought a grand's worth, but I don't move in those circles anymore so can't shift it, and I don't smoke now. Sad

Looking at this here, you poor chaps get in some state. I can offer no advice. Death by alcohol is what my faither in law is undergoing right now, and it doesn't look or sound too attractive.

But I love the booze, while steering clear of drugs (now for over 30 years, apart from an odd toke at the football).

No advice, I'm just in from a good night in the Commercial with a couple of pals, I'll keep it going for as long as possible.

Did I ever tell you about when Rangers tried to put the Warriors out the league? Very Happy
